What do you see as the most important issue facing American Society today? Explain what you perceive to be the major problem or issue in our country. Show how this issue has affected you in some way, and explain what you think society, the government, et al. should do to address the problem.
If i could change an aspect of the education system, I would change the grading system. I would change that you can't get graded on something that you have barley learned about. This would apply to homework you get on the first night of learning about it. I also think that the highest score in the class should be 100 because sometimes test and quizzes are so hard that everyone does bad. I think that this should be changed because a score doesn't determine how hard you tried on something or how hard you worked on it. Credit should be given for kids that come to school every day and try to learn as much as they can.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change a aspects of the education system my first thing would be to have the system more personalized like if a person is interested in farming for the rest of there life they could base more of there education on that instead of making you take classes that will not help you the rest of your life. If a student was interested in the arts they could base there education on that and not have to take 3 math classes to graduate even though they will not use that math the rest of there life.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't change many small, more specific, things, but I would change the general idea of high school. I think that school should be more based around the individual than it is. Currently, it seems our school system is like an assembly line, where students are taught the same thing, over and over again. The only skills actually taught in this system is the ability to be patient, attentive, and follow instructions, while in the "real world" no one is going to simply give a student "the instructions to life". That's why I think that schools should focus less on giving a general understanding on all subjects, and focus more on strengthening student's individual skills. I think high school should be more of a "how to: life" than a "introduction to college".
ReplyDeleteThe first aspect I would change in the educational system would be aimed towards the personalization of learning. I am a true believer that not everyone can learn at the same pace, therefore I think kids should be taught at a pace that their comfortable with. If kids are taught at a quicker pace and are not picking up the material, that can result in kids falling behind in class, struggling to understand certain areas, and a higher chance of them copying the assignments just to get them done. The second aspect that I think should be changed is the teaching of irrelevant content. For example, I don't think I'll ever use half of the things we learned in Trigonometry. Instead, I think we should have more life-skills classes to prepare us for the world.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change one thing about our schools system, it would be some of the common core classes that they teach. For instance, one of the useless class is science, most people don't know what a cell is, and frankly they don't care. It does not effect their everyday lives, and they have no reason to care about it. So if it doesn't effect our daily lives then why do we have to learn it.
ReplyDeleteOne aspect of the educational system that I would change is the preparation for life on beyond high school and real world tasks. When I say "real world tasks," I mean things such as taxes, paying bills, applying for a job, insurance, etc. All of these real world tasks are a necessity to learn, however our K-12 education system fails to elaborate on. I have taken two classes that have somewhat prepared me for life after high school; Agriculture and Pre-Employment Strategies. Neither of these classes are mandatory to take. Fortunately I was able to experience these classes, but many students can't say the same. These classes are very beneficial and I believe that there should be mandatory classes regarding real world tasks in every high school.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change two things about the education system it would be to make it more about the students and what they are interested in learning. Students should be able to learn about things that they want to learn. Another thing that I would change would be the grading system and how a test shouldn't be worth 50% of your grade. It should to weighted out by categories.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change two things in the education system it would probably be so that kids could learn moire about what they are truly interested in. I feel like sometime we are forced to take classes that you can learn in, but if it is knowledge that isn't very important and you probably won't need in the future why should we have to take it? Its very hard to stay focused and actually care about classes you have no interest in. The second thing is I wish classes were graded differently. I feel as if most classes, your grade revolves around the tests throughout the year and the final. For some kids this iOS unfair because they are just simply not good test takers.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change an aspects of the education system by not having the tests be put in the grade book worth so much. It should be high enough where people try, but doesn't need to be as high as 50%. Not everyone is a good test taker, no matter how much they know the material so if they don't do good on one test it drops their grade significantly. Also because a test score doesn't always show how much someone knows.
ReplyDeleteWell if I could change one thing it would be to have more sporting activities like if we had men's volleyball, MMA team, and many more things but it would be cool to have these because I feel that more people would be involved in more sports. it would change the amount of sporting activities we have and the amount of people out for sports in total.
ReplyDeleteOne major issue I see in the educational system is the lack of hands on classes. Once you get in the real world the knowledge you posses from school is almost pointless compared to having the experience for the job. I believe that the school board should provide classes that give students the opportunity to get hands on learning. This will benefit students significantly because they will be more excited and ready to learn while doing something they like doing.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change one thing from the educational system, it would be getting a more independent type of education. It would be like you getting the opportunity to learn about what you want to prepare for, as you move on into the real world. The high school educational system teaches the same thing over and over, it doesn't prepare you for any real world skills. It should be more of an individualized education because the high school educational system is a general and basic type of education. It needs to help with strengthening the skills that well help you in the future.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change something about the educational system it would be the grading system. I think grades should not be based on perfection but on improvement. As long as students are making improvements on their education and making steps in the right direction their grade should reflect those improvements.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change anything about the education system i would change the grading school and then I would have it that students learn what they want to do for a job someday. I would change the grading scale because if you were to get a 70 percent on a test it could drop the students grade to a C. With there grade at a C it doesn't give them very much room to do better on the next test because if they fail it could drop their grade to a D or an F. When comes to teaching the classes students should learn more about the job field they are going into because they would get to know the field before they went to college, and they would know if that is the job for them. There are some great things in the education system and there are things to be changed.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change one thing about our schools educational system, it would have to be adding a class to learn how to do things when were on our own. I feel like we need to be taught more on what we need to know when we are older than what we don't need to. I feel like life skills should teach more skills on real life situations.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change one thing about the educational system, I would change the teacher's testing system. I think everybody works at a different pace when it comes to tests and students should be allowed more time if needed. When you only have a one hour limit to answer multiple math or science questions, you feel pressured. This is what causes students to do bad on tests sometimes, they hurry to get all the questions answered and don't go back and rethink their work.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change two things about of education system it would be more classes that pertain to after high-school and college. I think that that this would help people get to see what the real life is like. I would say that they should have a trimester that they go to a job that they want to do and actually see if that is a career that they want to. Another aspect I want to change in the schooling system is the grading scale. I think that the scale should start and zero and then go up to 100. I dont like the current scale because a 60% is currently failing. I think that this grading scale should change.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change an aspect of the education system, I would change that students should get taught more on life skills. Teaching you on how to be on our own after school. Preparing one for what after school life will be like. Giving someone advice on what we could do to have things prepared or what you can expect after high school.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change one aspect of the educational system, I would change the time limit on tests. I believe that students should have more time limit on tests, instead of having just one class period to complete it. There are some students that take their time on tests, but in the end they don't have time to go over it. Having a test with multiple questions can take time to answer them, so our time limit should be extended.
ReplyDeleteI think that common core classes are important. Everyone should know the basics like how to read, write, and multiply, but beyond that, I think high school should be more focused on an individual student's skills. For example, if a student is amazing at art they should be allowed to capitalize on those skills instead of being forced to find the area of a triangle for an hour every day for half a school year. Another thing that I would change is homework. I do not think that worksheets should affect your letter grade. Just because someone doesn't do a worksheet does not mean they don't know what is happening in class. I'm not saying that homework isn't beneficial or that it doesn't help you learn I just think it shouldn't be the only reason that you pass or fail a class. I think that grading tests, quizzes, and projects is a much better idea for deciding the grade you should receive in class.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change one aspect of the education system, it would to change the attitude toward homework. I think the concept of homework is that it is beneficial for students to see how much they know or need to ask questions about, and for teachers to analyze what needs to be taught better. In real life, however, homework is busywork for students to stress over because it impacts their grades. This is why students cheat on homework - we are given homework to be graded on every question, rather than to be used for our benefits. For example, in math class last year we were given homework assignments that were graded on whether or not we finished them. I think this is how every class should function because it eliminates the student's need to cheat, and it promotes students to make mistakes and not worry about losing points for not understanding something.
ReplyDeleteif I could change one aspect of the educational system, I would change the classes that we have to take. Most of the classes that we have to take today are irrelevant and most of us won't need any of that information in the future. Most people don't even remember half of the information because they are never going to use it. So I believe we should let students take the classes that will help them in the their future careers. The educational system should also give the students the opportunity to take more classes that will prepare them when they get out into the real world. Another aspect I think the educational system should change is the grading scale. Most tests are weighted pretty high and I don't think that is fair to those who aren't great at test taking. A test doesn't always show how much effort you have put into the class so it should't be weighted as much.
ReplyDeleteIf i could change any aspect of the educational system it would be to let students have more of a choice in what classes they are interested in or want to join. The educational system could add more classes that are appealing and interesting to kids. Also another thing that i wish every school taught students about the real world problems. By real world problems I mean how to use a credit card, pay bills, taxes, how to manage money, and how to apply for jobs (job applications and interviews). If these skills were taught many students would be much further ahead in life because they are prepared for what is to come. Although some schools like Cascade have similar courses that teach this, many do not. Some beneficial courses i have taken were personal finance, intro to business, FFA, and School to work. I feel like schools should hit harder on these courses and add many others like it.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change one or two aspects of the education system I would most definitely change the grading system. It is so demeaning and causes so many problems. All students are different in their own way while learning, no one is the same, but the school judges you on your grades. Some are slower than others and that's okay, but there are many instances where you are not good at taking tests, so you flunk it and that affects your grade big time. The moral here is that you try your hardest but even when you do your grade could still not improve and it affects how you feel about yourself and how others look at you. Let's just say to clarify this blog, that the grading system sucks.
ReplyDeleteIf I had the opportunity to change one aspect of the education system, I would change how teachers give out homework. By this I mean there are certain kids who cannot completely understand something after being taught for around 45 minutes. Some kids can do this easily, but there are some who cannot. Students who don't understand are more likely to cheat on the homework so they can get it done by the next day. It is unfair to make students who aren't as smart as some other kids learn the same material in the same amount of time, especially if it is a short amount of time.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change an aspects of the education system I would change the grading system. Many people worry so much about the GPA that they don't take classes that would give them a challenge or that they would like to do, they take classes that are easy so that there grades won't go down. I think that nothing is easy and that everything has some type of challenge. I've seen students who work harder then others because something are more challenging to them then to others, and for those who don't have time struggling should try something challenging. Those who actually challenge themselves don't get the appreciation that those who have perfect GPA or straight A's do. I think that I would change it by paying attention to those who actually try and to those who take easy courses to have a good GPA.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change one aspect of the educational systems, is that having a class that teaches you life skills. Like for example how to do your taxes or how to buy/rent an house or an apartment. Also teaching your rights to anything. Basically a class that teaches you everything about life skills that's needed in order to survive in the real world.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the idea of change in the educational system, I have a few opinions. I think the foremost concern involves the gap in education for the poverty stricken. Often times these students live in terrible conditions with overworked or negligent parents. And in the areas that are most congested with these students, it is very obvious these schools under-performing and underfunded. The system needs a change but it won’t work by focusing on helping students one by one. There must be a system in place to help these public schools by giving them the resources needed to provide assistance for their students. Advocating for school choice as the secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, has hurts the public schools as they are getting less funding for having less children attending them. This further widens the gap educationally between the rich and poor. I believe this issue should be addressed.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change an aspect of the educational system it would probably be to have students take classes that would help them with the real world. Students should learn more about what they need to succeed in life. Taking classes that you more than likely wont ever need to use, such as trigonometry, would be a waste of time for students. Students need more hands on learning so that when they graduate high school, they would have a better idea of what they are interested in doing later in their life.
ReplyDeleteIf I could change the educational system in one way it would be the system as a whole. I think that the educational system is flawed. If you look at images of schools from 1917 exactly 100 years ago you will see kids sitting in neat rows and looking straight forward like how you would be in a factory. Jump back to 2017 and you will see that nothing has changed all kids sit in neat rows looking straight forward. I would change the formal appearance of schools to something called "Unschooling". Unschooling is where there are no grades, no tests, and no classes. This allows the student to pursue whatever pathway they want without having the feeling that if they do not want to do that specific pathway they will fail. That is what I would change with the current educational system.
ReplyDeleteOne aspect of the american education system that I would change is to make it not rely on G.P.A., as much. Yes i believe that getting a good G.P.A. is important, but i also feel like there are people, even in this school, that are smart enough to have 3.0 and above, but don't. I believe that G.P.A.'s now are based on whether or not you are obedient. What I mean by this is, when someone who is able to score highly on all of the chapter tests, but still get a lower grade because they do not do their homework.
ReplyDeleteAnother aspect of the american education system that i would like to change is completely privatizing private schools. What this means is that while in some states private schools are completely "segregated" from public schools. This means transportation, schools supplies and athletics.
