My opinion of Amir now is that he is overall a good person. Amir had made mistakes but later he went on a treacherous journey to find the nephew he never knew. Amir was hesitant at times, specifically about going back to Kabul during the Taliban’s reign, but in the end he found a stronger self than he ever knew. Amir found the courage within himself to commit to not coming back to his new, successful life. He was willing to leave everything behind to settle his debt to his deceased brother, to prove that he still loves him for who he was, and put childish jealousy aside.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab deals with Amir trying to make things good again. He is indebted to Sohrab in the sense that he had never shown Hassan the love and devotion he deserved. Hassan was always pure to Amir and in return he ran away from Hassan’s problems. He left him alone in a world that hated him since his birth. Amir, in his words to Sohrab, is making it right by running the kites for Sohrab like his father had done so many years before. He is slowly making the statement “For you, a thousand times over,” a reality for his son. He wants to show Sohrab the life that he didn’t for Hassan.
I believe Baba would be proud of Amir now. Amir knows he made mistakes and he gone through immense pain to see to it that Sohrab has been brought to safety. Even though it is not traditional for Afghans to adopt children, Amir decided that having Sohrab was more important than any customs or blood connection, no matter what anyone said. I think that Baba would have approved of this because he had never been a “typical” Afghan. Baba was someone who believed strongly and acted on it. Though Amir has never been very similar to his father, he stood up in a way that I think Baba would have in that situation. Amir set aside his fears to do what he knew was right choice.
I really enjoyed this book. To me, it felt like a saga of sorts, with it’s focus on a 2 Afghan children stuck in the middle of a war they don’t understand. An intriguing, disturbing tale of love, loss, and reality. I felt much of the story was very clever in the ways that it portrayed relationships with other people. Connections and people are so much more complicated than many stories make them out to be and I thought this story portrayed the human experience in a well represented tone. Another thing that I enjoyed about the book was how it presented a coming of age story, especially in Afghanistan. Amir and Hassan had to deal with real strife in the book at a young age, not a censored book filled with light hearted mischief. In reality, children do have to deal with pain and loss in their own ways. It presents dilemmas that transcend national boundaries like parent and child relationships, handling the death of someone close, and trying to repay a debt that you may never be rid of. All in all, I thought it was excellent.
My opinion on Amir is that he has really changed a lot. He has become the person that he wanted to be in a long time. He has brought his most important loved ones together and he has shared moments that are remarkable for him. He changed and he fought the person that he most feared and overcame that obstacle. Amir knew that he would be getting what he might've deserved during his childhood, and he did. The general that had Sohrab was Assef. That made a huge impact in the book because Assef was the cause of all of Amir's guilt. Overall I do think that Amir has matured and become a better person.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab is remarkable in this book. Amir remembers how he used to have so much fun with Hassan running kites around Kabul. He remembers Hassan's favorite move for running kites, and teaches Sohrab how to do it. Amir notices so much resemblance in Sohrab from Hassan. He notices that Sohrab is careful for everyone and he is very humble. Amir's redemption hits him so much at the moment but he recovers knowing that Sohrab is with him, caring for him like Hassan. Amir asked Sohrab that if he wanted himself to run the kite, and Sohrab nodded. Amir in his breath said 'for you a thousand times over', which probably the most important line in the book. Amir reflects back on Hassan's words and says it back to Sohrab.
I think that Baba would be proud of Amir now. Amir learned how to take the guilt and dealt with so much conflicts. I believe that Baba would understand everything that Amir did to be the person he is now. Amir made so many mistakes in his life that are unforgettable. Baba would be proud of Amir for so many reasons now. Amir has learned how important it is to take care of the most beloved people in his life , that is what I think Baba would be the most proud of.
I think that the book was amazing. The book gives you so many reasons of why you should enjoy and share important moments with your family. The life lessons and themes that were presented in this nook are so meaningful to every reader, in my opinion. The book gives the real life situations that people had to go through and live upon. I think that it is a very powerful and remarkable book for anyone who decided or decides to read it. This book tells a story full of fierce, cruelty, and yet redeeming love. This was a great book.
1. My personal opinion of Amir now is different, he used to be a coward and scared of everything different like a bay chipmunk. He is now a man and is able to take a proper beating to save his half nephew/ son, he is no longer a scared little boy he is a grown man with a family now you could now consider him a hero kind of to Sohrab.
ReplyDelete2. The significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab is really where the turning point in the book happened earlier. When Hassan ran the kite for Amir many years ago it was when he got beaten and raped by Assef and Amir just sat and watched. Now Amir runs the kite for Sohrab is like him proving to the reader that he is a changed man, in ways its showing that he isn’t scared anymore he's ready for it all because he will do anything for his new half nephew/ son.
3. I feel Baba would still be Baba in a way. But yes I feel Baba would be proud of Amir because of what he accomplished in life and getting a son, job and family. Baba would be happy almost to see Amir living the life he wanted being successful and all, and Baba would be proud to see how far Amir has come since they last saw each other and the way they acted towards one another.
4. To my surprise and maybe yours I did like the book and the way it turns out and ends. I just liked the whole family thing and how Amir had to struggle in American and now he is a successful man. The things I greatly disliked about this novel was that it was too long and kind of dragged on for some time and parts, other things I disliked were when Hassan got raped, and the fact that the book was just so boring for a long time and in many parts. I don’t think I could really connect to this book in any ways really, I haven't really had a very hard life or had to struggle for much except the grades in this class.
I think Amir is a much better person than he was before. After Amir realized his wrongs, he wanted to try to make them up. When he went to visit Raheem Kahn he learned some pretty devastating news. He learned that Hassan has died. Amir then knew his chance to apologize to Hassan was over. Raheem Kahn then told him, "there is still a chance to be good." Raheem Kahn wants Amir to travel to Afganistan and bring home Hassan's child, Sohrab, from the orphanage. Amir then decides to do this so he can make up his wrongs from the past.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of Amir running the kite down for Sohrab is because it is what Hassan did for Amir when they were kids. Amir teaches Sohrab some of Hassan's tricks he did with the kite. Then Amir says the most famous six words through out this whole novel, "For you, a thousand times" when he asks Sohrab if he should run the kite down for him. Amir realizes how loyal Hassan was to him and wants to do the same for Hassan's son Sohrab.
I believe Baba would most defiantly be proud of Amir for all he did. Amir proved to be a lot like Baba when he went to go get Sohrab. Amir was set on getting Sohrab home safely and made sure he did. Amir was also brave like Baba. Amir had to face the Taliban when he sat down with an official. Amir also did something that people from Afghanistan usually wouldn't do, he adopted Sohrab. I believe Baba would of approved of this because Hassan was his son and Baba wouldn't want his son's kid living in an orphanage. If Baba were still alive i believe he would appreciate all that Amir has done to make up for his wrongs in the past.
I thought The Kite Runner was a great book. At first, it didn't really keep my attention. As you kept on reading though, it would make you not wanna stop reading. I liked how the book switched from the past and then into the present. Overall the book was a really good book and i would recommend others to read it as well.
1. My new opinion on Amir is that he is now a good person. He had to go through a few ups and downs to become the man that he is, but in the end it was all worth it.
ReplyDelete2. The significance of Amir running the kite for Hassan was that Hassan did it for Amir when they were very little children. Amir remembered all of the good times that he used to Share with Hassan and brought those memories back to reality. He realizes that Sohrab is always with him and he keeps that as a treasured part of his life.
3. I do think that Baba would be proud of Amir now. Baba always wanted Amir to really be a man and prove it, I think now that Amir has proven that he has grown into something powerful and willing.
4. My opinion on the novel is that it was hard to follow along with at times, and I didn't enjoy most of it. It was well put together, but it wasn't a book that really interests me.
I think that Amir has changed a lot. Amir has turned into the person he wanted to be. I think that it is very brave of him to go fight Assef for Sohrab. I think Amir realized that this was his last ditch effort to show his loyalty to all his loved ones. This is another way to show his bravery to Assef after what he had done to Hassan. I think that Amir has changed a drastically since the beginning of the book. Amir is also passing on his heritage form his childhood to Sohrab. At the end of the book Amir helping Sohrab cut his first kite. This show to me that Amir thinks of Sohrab as his own son.
ReplyDelete2. I think the significance of Amir running for the kite is for Sohrab's sake because he wants to show his respect for Hassan. Another reason I think that Amir runs the kite is that he sees Hassan through Sohrab. Amir also gets to see his childhood through Sohrab doing the same thing as what Hassan and Amir did. When Amir and Sohrab cut the kite Amir asked Sohrab if he wants he to run his kite and he nods yes, and Amir reply’s “For you a thousand times over”, this is what Hassan says to Amir I think that this is one of the best lines of the in the whole book.
3. Would Baba be proud of Amir? I think that he would absolutely be proud of Amir. He turned into the man that Baba wanted him to become. He always wanted to stand up for himself and he did just that. He almost got killed trying to save Sohrab. I think that Baba would have wanted him to do the same thing for anyone.
4. What was my thoughts of the Novel? This was a novel that made me wanna keep reading it because you never knew what was going to be happening next. Although there were some parts that were a little strange I think that anyone should read to no matter what you like. This was one of the better books that I have read and I hope everyone gets the chance to read it.
1. At the beginning of the novel I didn't have a lot of respect for Amir, but over the novel he has gained my respect. He has changed immensely since the beginning. He has turned into a man compared to the scared little boy that he used to be. Amir going in and getting Hassan's son was very brave, because he easily could've died trying to do this. He has shown great courage from the coward that he used to be. Amir has turned into a good person and has shown courage that he use to lack as a kid.
ReplyDelete2. It is significant because that is what Hassan always use to do for him, when they would kite fight together. When Hassan said to Amir "for you a thousand times" that showed how he would do anything for Amir. And now Amir is saying that to Sohrab which shows that he will now do anything for Amir. This is also significant because Amir is honoring Hassan by doing this for his child.
3. I believe that after Amir making up for his previous sins, Baba would finally be proud of him for what he has done. What he has done for Hassan would have especially made Baba proud of him. Amir has done a very courageous deed for Hassan and Rahim Khan. And after all of this Baba would be proud. Baba would also be proud because of Amir standing up to Assef who bullied him as a kid.
4. I didn't like the book at the beginning because I thought it had started kind of slow, but it grew on me eventually. There were a lot of intense moments that mad you want to keep reading the book. But at the same time there were a lot of dull moments throughout the book. I can relate to Amir because when you are put in a tough situation it is hard to stand up for people. But after you go through that it makes it easier to stand up next time.
My opinion on Amir has changed through these last chapters. I feel as if Amir is a good person. He cares for others and wants to help people. He made terrible mistakes in the past that will always make him feel bad about himself but he has learned to deal with them. Living with those mistakes has made him a stronger person. Amir wants to prove that he has changes so he goes and saves Hassan's son. he brings him back to the United States with him to give him a better life where he can grow and be successful. Overall I believe that Amir proved to us that he is a better person.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab is because that is exactly what Hassan did for Amir. Hassan was very good at it so Amir teaches Sohrab some of his dad's tricks. Kite flying with Sohrab brings back so many memories of Amir and Hassan. Amir realizes how much Hassan loved kite flying and how much he loved flying with Amir. Amir can see how much Sohrab loves it as well and Amir says to Sohrab, "For you, a thousand times over," which was the same thing Hassan said to Amir.
I believe Baba would be proud of Amir now. Amir has matured a lot and became the man that Baba always wanted him to become. Amir learned a lot from his mistakes that he made in his past. He learned how to care for the people that mean the most to him and to love them with all his heart. Overall I think that Baba would be very proud of Amir.
I liked the book a lot because it showed us a lot about life. It gave us many reasons to want to be good and to try to be the best person you can be. The book had a lot of meaning and its a good book for people to read.
My opinion of Amir has drastically improved since the beginning of the book. At first, I did not like Amir. I thought he was spoiled and bratty, then I hated Amir for what he did to Hassan after leaving him to get assaulted in the alley. I think Amir has come a really long way from who he used to be. Amir is going to help Sohrab and he'll do anything to make sure he stays safe and gets to America. He gets beat almost to death for Sohrab. I think that Amir has become more selfless since he has grown up.
ReplyDeleteAmir running the kite for Sohrab is significant because Hassan would always run Amir's kites for him and Hassan was always loyal and ready to help Amir. This is Amir's way of making up for never being there for Hassan. He is making up for not being there for Hassan by bing there for Sohrab.
I truly think Baba would be proud of Amir finally standing up for whats right. I think Baba would definitely be proud that Amir went and rescued Sohrab from what could have been an even more terrible life.
I thought this was a really good book about some really bad things. Overall I thought this book was okay, but It is probably not one of the books that I will ever read again. I liked that the ending was kind of happy. I didn't like that Sohrab didn't get to have more of a childhood. I liked this book but I also didn't like this book because It was really sad.
My thoughts on Amir now have changed significantly since the beginning of the book. The reason that I say this is because towards the beginning/middle of the book i thought that Amir was selfish, and a coward. Now that he has gone back to Afghanistan in attempt to save Hassan's son from the orphanage. I think that Amir has changed into a good man since he moved to America.
ReplyDeleteAmir running the kite for Sohrab is important because while he ay not be able to make up what he did to Hassan directly to Hassan, he's able to try and help Hassan's son. This is significant also because throughout the whole book Amir has been trying to shake the guilt of what happened in his childhood, he's never really been able to find a way to do that, but i believe running the kite for Sohrab helps Amir internally.
I believe that Baba would be very proud of the man that Amir has become. I say this because of the way the Amir treats his wife. Amir is not like many other musslims, he treats his wife like a human and not like an object, an i think Baba would have been very proud of him for this. Baba would also be very proud of Amir from the fact that he travled all the way to Pakistan, then to Afghanistan all for Rhim Khan's dying wish.
1) My opinion of Amir now would be that he's trying to better himself, and because of this he is a better person than he was in the begging of the book. In the beginning he was selfish and a coward, he made his mistakes like everyone does. He didn't stand up for Hassan but later on in the book he made up for that by standing up for Hassan's son. Amir truly feels bad for what he did in his life and the mistakes he made, but those mistakes made him a better person.
ReplyDelete2) The significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab was because Hassan used to run kites for Amir when they were younger. Hassan had dedicated his life to making Amir's life better, so much he gave away his purity running a kite for Amir. Now it shows that Amir is trying everything he can to make Sohrabs life the best it can be.
3) I think Baba would be proud of Amir now. If he saw the troubles Amir went through to help Hassan's son he'd be very proud. He'd be proud that Amr finally stood up for somebody even though Amir knew he was going to be badly beat up. He would be proud that Amir decided to bring Sohrab back to the United States.
4) My opinion on the novel over all is that it really is a good book. I liked the whole concept of the book and I also liked how it was historically correct with the events that happened in Afghanistan. I liked that I could picture what everything had looked. I also liked that the book showed how there's a distinct difference between living as a wealthy person in Afghanistan and living in poverty. Last but not least my favorite part of the book was when Baba tells Amir the only sin is lying. The only part I didn't like was when Hassan got rapped, this just made me uncomfortable.
My opinion on Amir now is that he changed in many different ways. He finally stood up and did something right. By doing that it made him feel better and help him with the guilt he had. He saw things in a different way after that change. He felt that feeling it felt to help people out. Amir let go of all the things that were in him and helped him out in doing the right thing.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab is great. He does something that makes him remember his time when him and Hassan would fly a kite and then Hassan would run the kite for him. He feels that feeling it is to do that. Amir shows Sohrab how it was when him and his father Hassan did it. Before Amir runs the kite he says to Sohrab “For you a thousand times over,” that is something Amir takes in. He sees know how great it feels to say that and because of that he will do anything for Sohrab. All the things Hassan did for Amir, Amir is now doing it for Sohrab.
I believe Baba would be proud of Amir now. I say that because Amir did something he didn’t do when he was as a kid and Baba was looking for something like that. To stand up for himself or do something right. What Amir did was something that Hassan did as a kid and Baba really was proud of Hassan. That made Amir see what his father wanted him to do. He then finally got that opportunity and took it. He did a right thing that his father would be proud of.
In the beginning of the novel it was slow and didn’t get my interest, but then it started to get better. There were times where it was just not as interesting as other parts of the book, but overall it was a great book. It was a story that can connect to ones life. I say that because there was many decisions people had to do for certain things. The novel made me want to read more because all of the suspense it left one as the chapters ended.
1. What is your opinion of Amir now? Be specific.
ReplyDeleteAmir has turned into a miniature version of Baba, without as much wealth. Amir has a family, he saved Hassan's son from Assef, and he finally found the courage to fight back (against Assef). I like Amir because he has turned into an independent man who feels sorry for the wrongs he did as a child. He has become his own, independent person.
2. Explain the significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab.
This is important because, by running the kite, Amir finally understands how it feels to be the
runner instead of the flyer. This shows Amir coming full circle because it is like Amir taking the "father" place for Hassan, and he is finally able to pay Hassan back for all of the things he did for him.
3. Would Baba be proud of Amir now? Explain.
Yes, Baba would be proud of Amir. Amir is now taking on the father role with Sohrab. Amir finally stood up to Assef, which would've made Baba extremely proud.
4. What is your opinion of the novel? Explain your likes, dislikes, connections, etc. be specific.
I really liked the novel. I think it was important to listen to it out loud and go at a slower pace; it helped me to understand the concepts better. I really liked when Amir stood up to General T in the end; it showed courage and standing up for what he felt was right. I disliked the part where Assef raped Hassan in the alley. It was hard to read. I made connections to Amir and Hassan when they were sitting under the tree. It reminds me of simple times hanging out with friends.
ReplyDelete1. My opinion of Amir right now is he is trying to make u for the sins that he did to Hassan. I believe that he is trying to make up for what he did to Hassan by making it right with is son. I will say that it was brave of Amir to head back into Kabul to try and find Sohrab. He also did get not quit when he found out that the Taliban had him and he also went it t a room and got his teeth knocked in and blacked out because he was hit so hard. So I do think he is trying to become a better man but he will never forget about what he did as a child to Hassan.
2. The significant part of Amir running Sohrab’s kite is because of how Hassan would always run the kite for Amir and now he wants to return the favor or running the kite for Hassan’s son. I do think that Amir is also trying to make up for how he let Hassan get raped and then he kicked him out of his house and life because Amir couldn’t stand to look at him. Amir is trying to be the best man he can about what he did and that is why it is so significant that he runs the kite for Sohrab.
3. I believe that Baba would be proud of Amir now because of how he is helping fund a hospital and also going through a war zone to get his half-brothers son and take him to America even when people told him it would be next to impossible. Baba would also be proud of him because he would see how much of a good man that Amir had developed into and ding what is wright even when doing what is right can get him killed. Baba would also feel very relieved that Amir knows about Hassan being his half-brother because that was such a large lie that Baba had to take to his grave.
4. My opinion of the novel is that it was somewhat predictable but also had some major plot twists as well. What I really did not like about the book was what seemed like at the time the random rape scene running all of Amir and Hassan’s life for the rest of the book. But I do see how it did tie into the rest of the story. I still do not like the scene and feel like it could have been brought up in a different way. I do feel that this gave a good example to those who are reading that the choices that you make one day could then effect the rest of your life.
My opinion of Amir has changed, but not much. The circumstances that Amir has been in and the situations he has gone through have been tragic and left him somewhat powerless, in a way that constantly left him running from things. He has stood up for something now, namely Sohrab, and can be proud of his actions. This helps him cast of his guilt and constant mental suffering. It is nice that the book ends in such a happy state, with him proving to himself that he can stand up for something, and that he is capable of achieving great things.
ReplyDeleteWhen Amir runs the kite for Sohrab, he seems to feel as though he has reunited himself happily with at least some small part of Hassan. It seems that through this idea, he can face the idea of Hassan proudly, without focusing on the shame of the past and his previous actions.
I believe that Baba would be proud of Amir. I think one reason Baba may have even preferred Hassan over Amir at times would be because Hassan would stand up for Amir through anything, and was incredibly loyal. I think that Amir standing up for something, and taking such a dare in order to find Sohrab would prove that Amir too, has those traits.
In my own opinion, I would say I'm happy I read this book, so that I can relate to it, and be able to speak about it. However, I would also say that I'm not a big fan of this kind of plot towards the end, where the book feeds you ups and downs to seemingly rip you from a seemingly happy/relaxed ending, only to give you it right back. I think Sohrab's suicide is justifiable by plot, because he is terrified of orphanages, and the idea of going back to one. I don't think that it is good on the plot side of things though, because it's the whole 'character saved, safe character is going to die, safe character saved' arc. It doesn't seem necessary and I think the book would be better without it.
1. My opinion on Amir has changed from the beginning of the book. My opinion has changed because i have gained more respect for Amir. In the beginning i did not have very much respect because he would never stand for Hassan or for what he believes in. When he finds out that Hassan passed away is when i finally got my respect for him. When Amir decides he is going to go back to Kabul and out his life in danger to find Hassan's son and give him the life he deserves is when I really learned more about Amir's true personality.
ReplyDelete2. The significance of Amir running the kite Sohrab is same as Hassan running the kite for Amir. When Amir is running the kite for Sohrab he is trying to be good again because no matter what Hassan was always there for Amir and never let him down. Amir wants to make himself a better person by flying the kite for Sohrab and always being there for him just like Hassan. When Hasssan told Amir “For you a thousand times more.” amir took that to heart and believes if he uses this quote he will make himself a better person by helping Sohrab.
3. I truly believe Baba would be proud of Amir because he has grown up into someone great willing to help everyone. I also think he would be proud because Amir didn't know him and Hassan were brothers and he is still willing to help Hassan's son Sohrab get out of Kabul and live some place where is safe. Baba would be proud for taking in Sohrab with open arms no matter and giving him the life that Hassan never had and that he deserves.
4.I truly thought this novel was an amazing novel. I loved this novel because it is one that i could actually connect to things i have learned in school and things surrounding me. Not everybody had the easy life to live and Amir and Hassan showed that. Amir grew up getting everything and anything he could want and Hassan grew a servant and didn't get things he wanted the life he wanted. This novel really showed me that I take many things granted. I believe everyone should this novel because it is an amazing way to see the difference in people's lives.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion of Amir now is that I think he has matured and I like him more than I did before. He went for Hassan child, because he knew he had to even though he knew that it would be dangerous. He took Sohrab in and never gave up on him, even after everything that they both had gone through.
The significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab is that it’s what happened to Amir and Hassan which is what led to everything that happened in their past. Before Hassan went running for Hassan’s kite he said “for you, a thousand times over” and that is what Amir did for Sohrab when he was running for the kite.
I think that Baba would be proud of Amir because he overcame many fears and endured things and evens that Baba could never overcome. Amir wasn’t ashamed or he didn’t care for his reputation, he stood up for himself and for others. Amir overcame his own fears and guilt.
I enjoyed and I liked this because it made me think about how cruel the world could be and it made me look at things differently, it made me reflect. How lucky I am to live the way I do and have everything that I have. How others in the world don’t have the same opportunities. I like how to book had funny moments, sad moments, or how it made me mad, but a good book should do that, which is what this book did.
My opinion of Amir now is that he is a great man, who has overcome his fears. Amir was made good again when he went back to get Sohrab. Amir had to sacrifice by fighting Asseff who beat him up very badly. Amir went in knowing that his own health/ life is on the line and could possibly get killed, but that didn't stop him. He was determined to get back Sohrab at any cost and I think he is a good person for that.
ReplyDeleteAmir running the kite for Sohrab is significant in the book because Hassan used to do that for Amir when they were kids. Amir felt oblegated to get the kite for Sohrab because his father used to do it for him. Amir said "for you a thousand times" that he would get the kite for Sohrab shows that Amir would do anything for Sohrab.
Baba would be very proud of Amir for many reasons. The first reason he would be proud of him is because he finally stood up for himself by fighting Asseff to win back Sohrab. Amir proved to himself because when he was a kid he ddin't stand up to Asseff when he beat and raped Hassan. The second reason Baba would be proud of Amir is because he did the right thing by taking Sohrab. By taking Sohrab this made Amir feel better for treating Hassan wrong and repaying him by taking his son.
My overall opinion of Kite Runner was good. I really enjoyed reading this book. I liked how the setting was in Afghanistan and I could picture the setting and conflict while reading. The book had good meaning and many themes. The book taught any life lessons also.
In my honest opinion I really don't think Amir has grown at all but that he has stayed consistent throughout the novel. I say this based on evidence in the novel. he did leave his home and all who loved him out of cowardice and fright. Though he went back he didn't do it by his own will he was called upon by a dying Rahim Khan. At that point he is tasked with finding Sohrab, yes he does it, but because he is told to. It does take guts to go to the leader of a massive organization and demand a kid but when he has to fight Assef not only is he terrified he doesn't fight back he just gets horribly beat up and he had the mind set that he was going to die and was alright with that. If it wasn't for Sorab he would have died and just like when he was a kid and Hassan when was alive Hassan always bailed Amir out of trouble. So I really do not think that Amir has changed.
ReplyDeleteThe point of Amir running the kite was just to show how much he love and cared for Sorab and to hammer home how he and Hassan used to do it.
I feel that Baba would not be proud because Amir was just a coward throughout the novel.
I just feel that this is a bad book.
1. My personal opinion of Amir has changed dramatically. In the beginning of the novel, I saw Amir a selfish young boy who was only looking out for the betterment of himself. As time has progressed and he grows throughout the novel, we begin to see him change for the better and grow. I like how the author developed him throughout the novel and shows different stages of his life.
ReplyDelete2. The scene where Amir runs the kite for Sohrab is powerful. Not only is this relevant because Hassan used to run kites for Amir, but it also shows that Amir wants to repay Sohrab and Hassan for all of the wrongs he did to them.
3.I think that Baba would be proud of Amir now after all that they’ve been through. Baba always told Amir to live an honest life and to believe in what’s right. Amir begins to do this towards the end of the novel. An example of this would be when he rescues Sohrab even though he is reluctant to.
4. I enjoyed the novel for the most part. To be honest, I wish there was a little more action throughout the novel. I was this author would’ve incorporated the war in a little more with the novel, but other than that I enjoyed the book.
My opinion of Amir has totally changed a lot. I’m the beginning he was an unkind person to his best friend Hassan. Amir was a scared child when he was young, but as he grew up he kept changing. Amir went from being scared to standing up to someone that he feared during his childhood. He dealt with so many challenges in his life. As Amir was given a chance at redemption, he took that chance to save Sohrab. From that point my whole opinion on Amir changed. Amir became the person that he always wished to be in the end.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab is about Amir trying to make things good again. Hassan was always so kind to Amir and in return Amir ran away from Hassan’s problems. He left him alone in a world that hated him since he was born. Amir decided that he was going to run for the kite just how Hassan did. As soon as he starts running for the kite he says the same statement Hassan did, “For you, a thousand times over.” He wants to show Sohrab the life that he didn’t do for Hassan.
I truly believe that Baba would be proud of Amir. Amir became the person he always wanted to be when he was a young kid. He became the person that Baba always wished for him to be, and with that I think Amir and Baba are proud of that. Amir stood up to people that he was always afraid to stand up to. In the end he was a person who cared, loved the ones who were all in important to him, which would make Baba proud of Amir.
I really enjoyed reading this novel. In the beginning it was slow and I wasn’t really interested in it. Then as I kept reading, the chapters got more interesting and there was a lot of plot twists. Some of the themes that appeared in the novel really stood out to me and made me look at things in a different way. I didn’t really like the ending of the novel, I was expecting more of a happy ending to it. Overall the novel was great and very interesting.
1.)I believe that Amir over all has changed as a person. I think he has changed because in the beginning of the book he was selfish and only cared about him. He wouldn't stand up for others, that would have helped him out in a heartbeat. Also he tried blaming other people for his actions, such as “losing his watch”, but instead he placed it under Hassan’s bed. But by the end of the book he went back to Afghanistan to get Hassan’s son from an orphanage , even though it was very dangerous, and bring him back America. Even though when he was younger he didn't stand up for Hassan he made it up by standing up for Hassan and bringing him into his life back in America.
ReplyDelete2.) The significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab is like when Hassan would run after the kite for Amir when they were kids. Just like Hassan would do anything for Amir and once said “for you a thousand times”, Amir finally said this to Sohrab before he went to run after a kite, to show he will do anything for him.
3.) I believe that Baba would be very proud of Amir now. Amir has changed into the guy that Baba hoped he would. He finally stood up to Assef and also stepped out of his bubble. He did this to bring Sohrab back to America to make things right again.
4.)My opinion of the novel is that i thought it was a very interesting book. In the beginning of the book, it was a very slow start, but it eventually grew on me. Overall i thought it was a very good book. I liked how you could tell that Amir started to change over time. I liked how the book had a lot of plot twists and had lots of themes that were shown all throughout the book. I also like how you could actually vision some of the scenes to help you follow along better and connect more with the book.
1. I think Amir found a way to be good again. When he took the beating from Assef, he finally felt free. Before, I thought he was a coward that didn’t know how to stand up for himself. Now, I think he’s a good man that can stand up for what he believes in. He demonstrated this when he told the General to not call Sohrab a Hazara ever again in his presence. Overall, Amir is a good man that took Sohrab in with him and finally felt free of guilt at the end.
ReplyDelete2. Amir is now running the kite for Sohrab the way Hassan did for Amir. This has a big significance because it traces back to when Amir and Hassan were really close and Hassan would run the kites for Amir.
3. I think Baba would be very proud of Amir. He was finally able to stand up for himself, and do something good. He took Assef’s beating before letting Sohrab go and stood up to the General and told him to not call Hassan a Hazara ever again. Baba would have been very proud of Amir if he were still living.
4. I thought this was a great nove, I liked the suspense in it that made me keep reading. I was hoping the ending would be a little more happier. I was hoping Sohrab would have been more open, cheerful, and happy with his new life in America. Instead, he was quiet majority of the time and wasn’t too close with Amir and Soraya. The rest of the novel was good, everything in this novel was realistic and connected to today’s world.
My opinion of Amir has remained pretty much unchanged throughout the novel. At the beginning of the story, I thought Amir was a coward for what he saw happen to Hassan and did nothing about it. But now, after he learned that Hassan had a son, Sohrab, in an orphanage in Afghanistan, he's proven that he's a good soul. He risked his life going into Afghanistan to save his best friend's child, who had no parents after being shot by the people in control of Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteWhen Amir runs the kite for Sohrab, it's a significant event in the story because Amir is filling the missing father figure in Sohrab's life. For the majority of Amir's life, his father figure was missing because he thought Baba was constantly disappointed in him. Running the kite for Sohrab shows Amir is giving Sohrab something he didn't have as a child, a proud and supportive father.
Baba would be proud of Amir now because of the many hardships Amir faced in order to help a dying man with his last wish, and to help a helpless child in a war-stricken country.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this novel. I like how this story shows readers some of the horrible events some people go through in this region of the world, especially for those of us who are a bit closed-minded and don't understand the horrors going on there. The story itself was very interesting to read because it kept me constantly surprised and shocked at some of the things that went on in the novel. Hosseini is also very skilled at producing quality imagery in his writing, which really helped me visualize the story and see what was going on. I disliked how the story would sometimes jump years ahead of the storyline, then explain major events that happened previously. It sort of made the story feel messy, but it's not enough for the story to be completely horrible. In the end, I genuinely enjoyed reading this story and would highly recommend to keep using it for future classes.
My opinion of Amir has changed throughout the book. At first he was a boy that was worried about being good enough for his father. He had high expectations to live up to, and he knew he wasn't the same person as his father. The incident with Hassan and Assef revealed who Amir really was at that time. He had no courage to stand up for what was right. He was more worried abut his kite to show his father. By the end of the book, Amir has matured and his morals have become stronger. He risks his own life to save Sohrab and bring him home. I feel like Amir has always been a smart person, however in the beginning of the book I viewed his as a coward and by the end he has become a more respectable man.
ReplyDeleteWhen Amir runs the kite for Sohrab, it brings the story full circle. It reflects when Hassan was loyal to Amir and ran the kite for him. This time the roles are reversed for Amir, he is the one that feels loyal to Sohrab and would do anything for him. This is a way of helping Amir getting over his guilt of Hassan.
I think Baba would be extremely proud of Amir now. Baba was a very proud man that always tried to do the right thing no matter the consequence. Amir put his life at risk to save Sohrab, even though he didn’t know the kid. He could have easily said no and went home but he made a brave and courageous decision that Baba would have been proud of.
Overall, I enjoyed the novel and the story. I enjoyed the growth of Amir and the struggles and experiences he went through. I thought the book was a little long and draggy at times, especially the first half of the book. I liked the details of the story however, such as Amir not having a mother potentially is the reason everything happened the way it did. If he had a mother that loved him, he might not have been trying so hard to get a kite to get his dads attention.
1. I think Amir has grown into a man and experienced the theme of redemption. He is going through the same path as Baba. He made some major mistakes in his childhood but was able to become a good man. He started to stop being ashamed of his life and accepted his nephew Sohrab and even stood up for him to the General after he made racist comments. He has turned out to be a lot like Baba who was a good man.
ReplyDelete2. It is significant because it shows that Amir has learned to be a good friend. He use to treat Hassan as if he were lesser than him. Now he treats Sohrob with respect and does the hard work for him rather than making Sohrab run after kites for him. He lets Sohrab have all the fun when he use to let himself have all the fun and make Hassan do the hard less fun work. This shows that Amir now cares for others and not only himself he has turned into a much better friend.
3. Yes I think Baba would be proud of Amir because they have lived very similar lives. You could even say that Amir's big life mistake was less of a mistake then Babas. I think Amir has lived a more honorable adulthood then Baba did. Amir made his mistake when he was a child, its very hard for anyone to say they wouldn't be scared and make the same mistake that Amir did but Baba was an adult when he made his mistake. Baba was not a scared child he was a full grown adult and that in my opinion makes his mistake worse than Amir's. Baba would be proud of Amir because he became a good man after having a troubled childhood. Baba would think that Amir turned into a better man then him.
4. I liked the novel I thought it hit on the key themes very well and told an inspirational story. It shows that anyone can change their life for the better no matter how troubled their past is. I think everyone maybe not in such a major way as Amir did but has experienced redemption in some way. Overall I though this was a very good novel.
1. What is your opinion of Amir now? Be specific.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion of Amir now is a little different because he still didn't want his nephew until he got beat up by Assef and finally realised everything that he needed to do. Finally he was able to do good again when he finally got his nephew back from those evil men.
2. Explain the significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab.
The significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab is an amazing moment for him because Sohrab Dad, Hassen used to do that for Amir. For Amir this a moment he can reconnect with his old friend.
3. Would Baba be proud of Amir now? Explain.
I think Baba would be proud of Amir due to the fact that Amir went and looked for his nephew in Kabul. That he finally stand up for himself also be pleased that he brought make his grandson to him and able to see Amir be an amazing dad/uncle.
4. What is your opinion of the novel? Explain your likes, dislikes, connections, etc. be specific.
I really liked the novel at some parts it made me cry and other parts it was some dull moments. Otherwise it was a good novel to read to anyone. Some parts that I dislike is the parts where Hassen gets raped and killed those parts made me cry and emotional. This novel is an emotional roller coaster.
My opinion on Amir has changed drastically, for he has matured through the years and accepts his responsibilities to overcome his lifelong guilt. He left his successful life and went on a journey across war torn regions to find his nephew that has been sold to the Talibans. While doing so, he is confronted by a similar situation regarding the alley many years ago. Amir finally stands up to Sohrab which has been the source of all his guilt all along.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab refers to the loyalty Hassan had for Amir which in turn Amir bestows upon Sohrab. Amir shows him all the tricks Hassan had showed Amir and even said the same quote Hassan had said, “For you, a thousand times.” Amir tries to raise Sohrab the way Hassan would have wanted to combine the powerful with the powerless of the two families in the novel.
Baba would most definitely be proud of Amir for many reasons regarding the situations they were both stuck in. Baba started orphanages to relieve his guilt with being Hassan's father for he knows he has sinned. Amir risked everything to redeem himself for what he did years ago and that is much larger than Baba’s effort. Baba would be extremely proud of Amir.
I thought The Kite Runner was overall a great book. I liked it mainly because it shows us the qualities people should have and how we can make ourselves better by acting like a Matured Amir.
My opinion of Amir now is that he is a very caring and a good person. I think that all the things that have happened in his life has made him into the person he is today. When he was a kid he was kind of self centered and only cared about himself and now because of all the things that he did when he was a kid has changed him and shaped him into a good man. If Amir was like the person he used to be he never would have helped his nephew or risked his life if he didn’t change or would have been the same person he used to be.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of Amir running the kite is because he was trying to make up for always making Hassan do it all the time and not treating him right. It is Amir's way of trying to be good again and trying to make up for being a bad person to Hassan.
Yes I think Baba would be very proud of the man Amir has turned into because he is taking care of Hassan's son and he is trying to make up for what he has done. He is fighting for other people and not just for himself. He is being a strong man and not back down from a fight.
I like the book and thought that the message was really good in it. I liked how Amir changed his ways and became a good and better person once he got older. I liked how he didn’t just do thing for himself and looked out for other people. I Enjoyed reading the book and think other people would too.

ReplyDeleteMy opinion of Amir sure has changed from what had happened at the beginning of the novel. He has definitely changed as a person. At the beginning he was quite ignorant. He knew some of things he was doing were wrong and still did it. He would make fun of his best friend Hassan because he wasn’t smart. He even knew that Hassan would do absolutely anything for him. Amir also accepted the fact that Hassan was getting raped by Assef and didn’t do anything about it. Amir was guilty about these things and didn’t do anything about it until Rahim Khan had called him to save Sohrab. It all changes when he stands up Assef towards the end.
Amir flying the kite for Sohrab is significant for a couple of reasons. It is what finally gets sohrab to smile. That’s important because it seamed as if sohrab was never going to be happy. That didn’t mean that he was always going to be, but in that moment, there was hope. It was also significant because Amir was doing for Sohrab what Hassan did for him. He even said those infamous words,”For you, a thousand times over.”
I think Baba would absolutely be proud of Amir. He always wanted Amir to become a man and be able to stand up for himself. Amir definitely did that throughout the end of the book. in all of the situations leading up to taking Sohrab back to america.
I really think this may have been one of the best books i have ever read. It was a bit intense at times, but overall that made it a real page turner. it was a bit frustrating at times with how Amir had been acting but i’m glad he changed.
1. I feel as if Amir has changed as a person. I think that he has made things right by saving Sorab and putting himself before everything else in his life. He is not as selfish as he used to be thinks about others before himself now. He cares about Sorab so much and looks up to him that he stood up to the General when that is against the beliefs of their culture.
ReplyDelete2. It is significant that Amir ran the kite for Sorab because Amir is doing anything for him. It is tradition that only the kids run kites but Amir wants to do it for him because of the last time when Hassan ran the kite for him and he got raped while doing it.
3. Baba would be proud of Amir now because he has now realized that Hassan and his family really is his family too. He is now looking out for Sorab and standing up for him. They are not different from him anymore and just because he is a different ethnic type, they are the same.
4. I think that this is a really good novel. It has so much detail and it connects back to be beginning in almost everything that happens at the end. Such as car sickness comes back up. Another one of the main things that come back up is Asseff. He is now raping Hassan’s child just as he did Hassan. Amir now needs to stand up to Asseff unlike he did as a child and need to deal with Asseff himself instead of having someone else do it for him. I really like the plot line and how everything unfolds in the end and all makes sense again.
My thoughts on Amir throughout the novel has changed because of some of the events that happened. I believe that Amir is very caring, hardworking, and a good person. With all the things that happened in his life it has made him a better person. When he was younger everything was about him and didn't show much care for others. He also showed jealously immensely because his father gave more attention to Hassan due to the fact that they both liked sports and Amir was more of a writer and reader type of person.
ReplyDeleteWhile Amir was flying the kite for Sohrab is a significance because it makes Sohrab smile. For a while it didn't seem like Sohrab was ever going to be happy. Another significant because Amir was doing for Sohrab what Hassan had done for him.
Baba would've been awfully proud of Amir now because he realized that Hassan was really apart of his family. He was now looking out for Sohrab and standing up for him. He is also fighting for other people and the strong person he has became.
Overall, I think this was an excellent book. It showed many details that proved a good point. I also can relate to this book because there was many decisions that had to be made. In life, there are many decisions that are easier than others. I liked that Amir changed his ways and became a better person because of doing that.
At the beginning of the book I didn't really like Amir because he did not respect Hassan unless they were in private and no one was around. Now that he understands that he actually likes Hassan, he now treats him with respect.
ReplyDeleteThe significance of Amir running the kite for Sohrab is that he knows he will do this over and over for him because he is so loyal to him.
Baba would be proud of Amir if he was still living. Baba taught him to be a better person and to stand up for himself, and now that he is older, he has realizes that and does it now.
My opinion of the book is that I like it and it was a good book. I liked that Amir came back to rescue Sohrab from Assef and that made the book better. I disliked when I found out Hassan and his wife were killed.
