Good Again?
Describe Amir's life in America. Has it been successful? Fulfilling? After chapter 16, what are your thoughts on Amir's struggle with his own guilt at this point in the novel? How has your opinion changed about him since he was a boy in Kabul? Do you think he can "be good again?"
Amir's life in America has been successful in the fact that he is doing well with his novel that he published and he had married a woman but not successful in the fact that he cannot produce a child with his wife. So Amir does not feel very fulfilled because of the fact that he cannot make a child. Amir’s struggles with his guilt I believe is less than when he first left Kabul but still very strong and maybe starting to get worse and that’s why he wants to go back to make things right. He has definitely grown up since he left Kabul but he still had all of the gilt in his mind and because of that I don’t think he will ever feel as if he is "good again".
ReplyDeleteI agree that Amir's life in America has been very successful already got one novel published and another one on the way. He has his own house and a wife, but they are having trouble having a kid. After chapter 16 I feel that Amir is doing good but having a bad life his father dies then Rahim Khan dies after telling Amir that Hassen and his family died. He changed for sure but hasn't really changed a whole lot, like he made it and all but hes still the same person who came from Kabul and doesn't want to go back for good reason. I think he could be good again but I don't believe he will be good again.
ReplyDeleteAmir's life in America has been a roller coaster of emotions. From dealing with Baba fit over some oranges in the store to not be able feel confident enough to talk to the woman of his dream. He still thinks about his own life in Kabul and not confessing his guilt to Baba would make him feel more guilty in the long run. My opinion about is still almost the same since he left Kabul, because he still keeps the guilt to himself which make matter worse. Amir can still be good like being a published writer. Also by finding Hassan and making things right once again.
ReplyDeleteAmir’s life in America has been a chance for him to thrive . Amir seems to be much more acclimated to life in America than in Afghanistan. I think that America is much more forgiving to Amir’s passions and demeanor than his previous culture. They are more open minded of him and this is something that brings Amir to feel more at home than he ever has. He has fulfilled his dream of writing and now has a wife who he loves. I think Amir wants to move on from the guilt he felt from Hassan, but I don’t think he can quite do that yet. He has matured and I think that he knows what he has to do to get closure. I I think Amir can be fully rid of guilt someday, but he must stop living the past for this to happen.
ReplyDeleteI believe Amir is happy to be out of Kabul and in America. He has been successful in the fact that he graduated high school and is going to college. He also met his wife and has a house. When Amir and Baba first moved to America they were probably feeling like their new life was terrible compared to their old life in Kabul, but now that Amir has established his life he is feeling more fulfilled. I think that ignoring your guilt is not a good way to deal with it. I think Amir needs to face his own feelings. At the beginning of the story, I didn't mind Amir at all, but after chapter nine I hated Amir for what he did to Hassan. Then I mostly felt indifferent about Amir because I can't change what happened and I can't make him a good person. I don't think there is a way for him to truly correct what he did because it was horrible, but maybe he can try to be better in some way or make it up to Hassan somehow by going back to Kabul.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Amir is happy with his life in America, especially compared to his life in Kabul. He has become a successful writer, and is happily married. We can tell that he has money again now because him and his wife just bought a house. I think that Amir has a chance to get rid of his guilt because he is now back with Hassan. Ignoring it like this has been bad for him because it has always bothered him his whole life. I believe that he has changed a lot since he was a kid. He has become a lot more mature than the immature kid he use to be. I think this opportunity he has in Kabul gives him a chance to right his wrongs.
ReplyDeleteAmirs life in America has had its ups and its downs to this story. He has had a successful writing career and is now married. Some of the downs since he moved here were that his father has passed away and the town where he once grew up is now demolished, but on the flip side of that we know can tell that he is starting to get some money back again because he has bought a house from the money that he has gotten from his books. My opinion of Amir has not really changed due to what he let Amir do to him. But now with his new wife we can tell that he has found a since of relief since she has had a conflict as well. I think that he can be good again because he has basically started a new life and he has a chance to leave what has happen in his past behind him and have a fresh start.
ReplyDeleteLife in America has been easy for Amir. They do not have to worry about if this will be the day they die anymore. It has been successful because they get to see other people from Afghanistan and be a little community again. He found his wife and loves someone more than he ever knew he could. It has been fulfilling because he began a career in English and has wrote a book. Amir struggles with his own guilt because he has had a chance to get it off his chest and he did not do that. Then Amir and his wife could not get pregnant and he things that this is the result of him not stepping in on the rape and this is what he deserves for it. He has grown into a man and now he takes more responsibility for his actions instead of just acting as if it did not happen. I think that he can be good if he admits to Hassan that he did see the rape and he tells Hassan how he felt when it was going on. Also, if he admits how he thought of Hassan as a brother and looked up to him.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Amir is happy with his life in America. Even though he had to go through his father passing away, he is happily married and has a successful career as a writer. He is able to buy nice things again such as a house for his wife and himself. I feel like he fulfilled all his life goals but a few. In the novel we found out that his wife and Amir are not able to have children and that was a big dream for both of them. I feel like his struggles are less since he has left Kabul, he had a chance to basically start over, but I still believe he is feeling guilt. I believed he had changed a lot since he was a kid. Over time he has become more responsible and more mature. He treats with wife with a lot of respect and lets her speak out.
ReplyDeleteI think that Amirs life in America has been successful because he has wrote a novel, he has his own house and a wife that he loves very much. I think that he has fulfilled a lot of things in his life that he maybe would have never been able to do if he would have stayed in Afganistan. Since Amir has still at this point in his life not delt with is guilt and what he saw that afternoon in the alley he is still struggling with it. He can't even tell his wife about because he is still trying to ignore the fact that it happened, I think he thinks by not telling anyone what happened then maybe he can act like he never saw it. I think he thinks by this point if he would tell someone they might hate him for keeping it a secret for so long and never telling anyone. I think that Amir is a good person but he has trouble dealing with tough situations. I think it is really sad that he still at this point has told anyone or admitted to what happened. But I do think that he still has a chance to make things right again.
ReplyDeleteAmir’s life in America has been successful for them, but not as successful as he wish they could have become. Losing Baba and now have a wife I feel has changed him as a person. Losing Baba was one of the hardest things that has happened to him, but being able to marry the one he wants is making it all seem a little better. Amir is struggling with his own guilt because he could not tell his wife about the bad he has done in the past even though she has told him. I feel that that will end up coming back around and he will wish he did tell her everything that he did when he was a boy. My opinion has not changed a whole lot, because I think he still cares about Hassan and worries about him even though he has not associated with him in a long time. In my opinion, I believe that Amir can end up being good again.
ReplyDeleteAmir is graduated from high school and he finished his college classes, he wrote stories which were published. He has a comfortable life. His life has been successful compared to when he had just gotten there and when he was in Kabul. He chased his dream about being a writer and published books, so yes his life has been fulfilling, not only because his dream came true but because he is also married to the women he loves. He became more mature in some ways and serious. I think he can be good again by going to Pakistan and facing what he has been scared to face his whole life.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Amir's life in America has been successful for many reasons. First of all Amir met Soraya whom he soon married and is happy. Also another reason that Amir is successful is his writing career. His writing career sparked and published a few novels. Amir fulfilled his life because of his writing career and getting married. Amir is struggling even more with his guilt towards Hassan because he's lived through it for many years and didn't talk to anybody about it. Amir feels even worse when his wife admits something about her past, but Amir is sad because he can't talk about his past yet. I believe that Amir has matured immensely throughout the book up until this point in his life. I believe Amir can be good again only if he admits to his past that he so much regrets. I believe Amir can forget hius past only if he expresses his past to somebody or talk to Hassan.
ReplyDeleteI think that Amir's life has him satisfied with who he has become, whether that is for better or for worse. Although he has not come to terms with the horrible act that happened to Hassan he still does not let that slow him down. Amir has a house and a loving wife which both give him a reason to be happy. Over the years Amir has matured and grown. I think that Amir has a good life.
ReplyDeleteAmir's new life in America started out as a bit of a struggle, but has flourished into a rather simple life. His writings have started to sell which makes him very happy. In addition, he has found a beautiful young wife by the name of Soraya. The main controversy the couple is facing is the ability to have children. I believe that although he still dwells on the past sometimes, he focuses on the future which distracts him from what he did. I definitely do think that he is trying to "start over" again in the US. After what happened, I thought of Amir as a bad kid, but my opinion has changed over time. I believe that he can be good again, but it may take the rest of his time on Earth to right his wrongs.
ReplyDeleteAmir has been successful in America. His stories have been published, thus allowing him to move to a nice Victorian house with his wife Soraya. It has also been fulfilling because he married the girl he likes and does what he loves for a living, to write novels. I think Amir has severe issues. By the age of 38, he should have already accepted his guilt and moved on! Although it is something hard to get over, it was his fault in the first place because he let it happen! My opinion has changed a little. I’m glad that he pursued his dream of becoming a novelist, but I don’t agree with the fact that he still hasn’t confronted Hassan. I do think there is a way for Amir to be good again, he can raise Hassan’s boy and make up for it.
ReplyDeleteI believe Amir can be good again. His life has changed for the better since he has moved to America. Amir has had some hard times in America at the beginning but has ended up being successful and happy. Amir has a wife and is beginning to become a successful author but he still runs into problems that hold him back from total happiness. He finds out he cannot have children for an unknown reason. I think Amir can be good again and is good again. Amir is a great husband and successful author I believe he can go back to Kabul and make things right.
ReplyDeleteAmir has a new life in California now. He graduated high school and went to college to study english and writing. He has adjusted to the american culture pretty well, especially better than Baba and other Afghans. He also finds Soraya, whom he is very in love with. I think that Amir has found life fulfilling and successful since he moved to California. The move has helped put the memory of Hassan in the back of his head. However, the memory of Hassan does not get erased. He still carries around the guilt of Hassan, though it doesn't get brought up as much. He doesn't tell his wife Soraya, which I think means he hasn't forgiven himself and accepted his past yet. Amir has matured a lot from his childhood in Kabul. He has grown up and figured out his values. He struggled before to connect with his father, but now he has built a better relationship with his father, and realized that he is different from his father and that is okay. I think Amir can be good again in his near future whatever it is. He has matured and is ready to take on responsibility of his past mistakes.
ReplyDeleteAmir's life in America has been successful in many different ways. Amir is now married and is working as writer when he he is living in America. We can tell that him and his family have money because after him and his wife happily got married they bought a home together. I believe Amir will lose his guilt because he is married now and is going back to where it all began in Afghanistan. Being back where he grew will give him the chance to forgive himself and forget about what he has happened. Yes my opinion changed about Amir because I feel he is more grown up and regrets not saying anything about what happened to Hassan. I truly believe if Amir can forgive himself about what happened that night he will be able to be good again.
ReplyDeleteI think that Amir's life in America has been pretty successful up to this point. In the time that he has been in the country, he has had two books published, gotten married and graduated from high school. He has also started going to college while he has been in the country, as well as bought a house with Soraya. I believe that his guilt, since he has gone back, has grown even more than what it was while he was in the U.S. My opinion has changed of Amir because of the way he treats his wife. When they first got married i thought that he would treat he like normal afghan men treat women but he treats he much better than most men do. I believe that Amir will one day tell someone about what happened, and will become "a good man".
ReplyDeleteAmir's new life in America has been very successful. He has had two books published, he got married and he lives in a nice community with other people from Afghanistan. I feel as if he feels his life is fulfilling because he's able to do what he loves and write books. He can also support his wife because he now has the money. Baba and him were able to get close and Baba became very proud of him and Amir felt like he was good enough for him for once. Amir's struggles with his guilt are still there but they are lighter now, because of his new life. He basically got a clean slate when coming to America and I feel like that helped him a lot, but I do not believe that his guilt will ever leave until he goes and finds Hassan and admit to him what he had done to him. I personally do not believe that Amir can truly be good again. What he did to Hassan and how Amir treated him all those years was a horrible thing to do to someone who would do anything for you. Hassan loved Amir like a brother and Amir only liked him when he wanted something from Hassan. so it doesn't matter how good he can try and make himself now because his past will always follow him even if Hassan forgives him.
ReplyDeleteAmir's life in America is going pretty good for him. Amir has graduated from high school and then attended college to study English and writing. Amir then starts making some money off of his writings. Amir also finds a woman by the name of Soraya who he marries. Amir's guilt has still stuck with him since he has moved to America. Amir doesn't tell his wife about his past with Hassan which also means he hasn't accepted his past. I believe that Amir has became a better person since he has moved to America. I also believe that Amir can be good again if he starts to accept his past.
ReplyDeleteAmir’s life in America has been successful. Many changes happen in his life. He is accomplishing and accomplished many things. Like graduating school, having a major in english, and getting one of his novels published. With his two novels published he got good money and with that he used it to have a good home for him and his wife Soraya. My thoughts on Amir’s struggle with his own guilt is that he just can’t forget about it. It’s still in him, even when good things happen to him he still remembers. There hasn’t been a way for him so far to get rid of that guilt. My opinion on him has and hasn’t changed since he was a boy in Kabul. He has been different now that he is in America, but he still has that guilt in him. He did bad in not helping Hassan and also not telling Soraya that guilt like how she did with him. That was a chance also where he could have changed, but he didn’t take that opportunity to tell her. That was a chance to tell someone what happened even though it has been years. Like I said he had a chance where he could have been “good” in telling Soraya that guilt, but I think he can still have a chance. He may still have a chance because after losing his father made him also look at things different. Now that he has talked to Rahim and Rahim has told him things he will now do something good because of that guilt.
ReplyDeleteAmir's life in Amercia has been very successful. He had one of his books published, he now has a wife and he lives in a safe and decent area. Amir finally feels good about himself and he finally got the feeling of acceptance from Baba. His guilt has definitely grown since leaving the U.S.. Amir does not treat his wife with much respect or kindness, and that really changes my opinion on him and how i see him. I do think that he can be good again if he really wanted to and really put in the effort to do so.
ReplyDeleteI would say that Amir’s life in America is much more better than his life in Kabul as a child. Amir has dealt with many emotions while living in America. Amir has become a successful writer and he is happily married. My thoughts on Amir’s struggle with his guilt is that there might be a change for him to not feel guilty anymore. I do believe that Amir can be a good person again, to be good again he has to do something very important and meaningful to be able to be good again.
ReplyDeleteAmir's life as an American has overall been a success. He graduated high school and is moving on to college to study what he loves the most: literature. Although his father doesn't like the idea of going to college to become a writer, Amir pursues his English studies because it is the one thing he loves, and he's able to do what he loves due to no longer living in Afghanistan. He also fell in love with a girl for the first time, Soraya, and was able to marry her. Although they aren't able to conceive a child and aren't culturally encouraged to adopt, Amir has become a successful writer and owns a house with his wife. Amir points out the fact that he's allowed to forget all of his regrets like many other immigrants living in America due to the higher quality of life in the United States. Since the beginning of the book, my opinion of Amir has remained pretty much unchanged. Although he witnessed his best friend being raped and did nothing about it, he was only 12 years old at the time, which is something a child that age would most likely run away from and be too scared to involve them-self with. He constantly regrets not intervening and wishes he could go back and fix it, even into his adulthood. Because of this, I believe Amir already is a good character with morals and doesn't need to improve, although Amir himself will probably never feel as if he can "be good again".
ReplyDeleteI believe that Amir’s life in America is significantly better because he is able to do the things he loves to do. In Kabul when he was young, he was almost ashamed of writing and reading because his father did not take much interest in it. Once he got married and found out that he was sterile it made him lose faith to relieve his guilt because he couldn't teach his own son the lessons he learned in his young days. My opinion about him definitely changed because he seems to have figured out his life. I believe there is a way for Amir to be good again by forgiving himself of what happened years ago because it means nothing anymore.
ReplyDeleteAmir's life in America has been successful because he has written a novel, has his own house, and has his wife, Soraya. Even though Amir had to deal with the hardships of loosing his father. My opinion has changed from early on in the novel due to the fact that I think he has his life more under control now living in America. I also believe that he is now able to pursue his writing and reading career because that is the one thing that he loves to do. In which no longer living in Afghanistan I think helps to just follow his dreams and believe that he can do what he wants to do. I believe that Amir can be good again because his life style has changed from living in Afghanistan to now living in America. In this he has changed from the person he used to be, and I feel that he would now step up and help someone when needed.
